About Us

Apus Productions are an established street theatre production company and have been touring walkabout street theatre since 2007.

With specialist skills in costume design and construction, prop, and mobile set realisation, as well as large scale outdoor street theatre and carnival costume and puppetry. They are based in Hull which was named UK City of Culture in 2017.

They have a current repetoire of eight street theatre acts that tour nationally and internationally. All the acts are walkabout mix and mingle with two having static performable show options. They are all family friendly and can be performed during the day or night-time illuminated.

Who?

The team at Apus create performances that combine street theatre, experimental costume design and innovative lighting and sound technology. The performance team and visual artists aim to be original, inspiring, entertaining, and professional.

They specialise in interactive performance involving audience engagement, allowing the audience to forget themselves for a second and making people happy. If you require an ice breaker, a surprise, or the unexpected, serendipitous encounter at your event, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks to Liz’s partner Ian, an electronics engineer, the acts have all singing, all dancing, pre-programmable sound, and lighting systems.

Where?

They have performed at street theatre and green field festivals and events such as Freedom Festival Hull, Glastonbury, Spare Parts Festival, Festival of the Sky, the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race, and the Welcome to the Forest event as part of the first London borough of culture celebrations. Internationally they have performed at Sighet in Romania; Waterford in Ireland; Mumbai in India; Leon in Spain and Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Doha in the middle east.

Liz Dees

Creative Director

Liz is a founder and director of Apus Productions since the company was established in 2007. Originally trained at the Chelsea College of Art and the London College of Fashion, she has worked as a costume designer and maker since 2001, on shows ranging from West End musicals to community operas. With Apus she now specialises in walkabout street theatre and giant puppetry.

Ian Mitchell

Technical Director

Ian tinkers around with bits of metal and plastic, which mostly goes alright until he lets the smoke out.

Generally an ancient all round good egg with delusions of grandeur with limited scientific knowledge. He formally had a proper job that paid him handsomely, he now works for peanuts and wine.

The wider  team

Meet our team of freelance performers and artists. All based in Hull and the surrounding area, they travel with our acts nationally and internationally. They are all professionally trained in drama or art and design. The majority have collaborated with us since the companies inception. We welcome new members of our team every year including new graduates and artists moving into the outdoor arts sector.
